Sacred geography - cliffs
Cliffs and any vast rock face which ascends from a very deep valley takes on the combined symbolism of the Cliff and the Abyss.
Cliffs may also have practical usefulness in that they are naturally reverberant acoustic spaces and thus capable of providing spiritual experience
