Being constantly criticised

Introduction and description
Criticism is “the practice of judging the merits and faults of someone in an intelligible (or articulate) way”. In this context, criticism undermines the strong sense of self worth the person has – the ego. In fact, it is a direct attack on the ego.
Background
This approach has been one used by gurus and ‘masters’ with their disciples. The aim is to defeat the ego, by a slow process of attrition. It is thus a direct attack on the Will and the Ego – no beating about the bush with emotions and desires, this goes straight to the heart of the block between you and your composer.
The Chasm of Fire – Irina Tweedie
He kept being difficult, telling me off for one thing or another. He would ask something, then pull my answer to pieces. Could not do one thing right. At last could bear it no longer, burst out crying, took my chair and went to sit under the mango tree near the fence, far away from all of them. There I cried; it must have been for more than an hour. He kept talking and laughing with L, perhaps they were laughing at me, God knows. I did not care, my heart was aching so much. I had had enough... Please a little, just a little peace and kindness and compassion, a little encouragement, a little warmth. I was lonely, my heart cried out for truth.
It hurts so much. He hardly speaks to me for days, and when he does it is only to increase my confusion, to hurt or to create a doubt, a mental torture. Yesterday he accused me of something I have not done; it was an insignificant thing but it was hurtful and he was so angry; oh it was so painful.
The Chasm of Fire – Irina Tweedie
"You idiot old woman. I am glad that you are going at last. You have no respect for my children. You are good for nothing, old and stupid". I was so taken aback at this unexpected attack that I sat down stunned. I don't even remember whether I cried or not.
How it works
You need to have the Model of the Mind open and have read How spiritual experence works.
Being constantly criticised constitutes a THREAT. Any form of reminder of the amount of hurt being suffered – a sudden jog to the memory which then produces memories - simply adds to the emotion and the subconscious feels the pain of this new threat.
There is also the direct attack upon the personality, so direct it is subdued fairly effectively.
Thus the intensity of emotion blots everything else out – absolutely everything – reason, logic, desires and objectives, obligations and opportunities. Nothing is left except the vast sea of distress.
And the Will is overwhelmed. It can do nothing against such an onslaught, it has nothing in its armoury to help – no learnt function can match this barrage.
So the Will gives in and the Composer takes over.
