Type of Spiritual Experience

Background

A description of the experience

The Wisdom of John Pordage [editor Arthur Versluis]

These seven spirits of God are the various outgoing powers immediately proceeding from the body [of the spiritual word] … they are the true fruits of the spirit.  For as the supreme Unity becomes a Trinity, so the Trinity varies itself into a septenary or seven spirits.  These seven spirits are co-essential and co-eternal with the Trinity but not co-equal with them.  The seven spirits are the high princely counsellors of the divine majesty; all the secrets of the Trinity are revealed to them, for the Trinity does nothing without them, in that they perform and execute the will of the Deity.

These spirits are not personal spirits, as the angels are, who appear in organic bodies; they are pure simplified spirits without composition; they resemble the supreme unity and simplicity of the Deity from which they proceed
