Symbols - What does heaven look like
Veil
Synonymous with a door, and thus a form of portal into the spiritual world. Veils tend to be used as the first barrier you meet to spiritual experience, thus the haziness of the image and indistinctness of the vision you may get is symbolically indicated by the idea of a veil.
Screens and curtains are also used to mean the same thing. Thin semi-transparent material, or lattice-work screens are symbolically used extensively.
Each layer up and down is protected by a ‘veil’. The ‘dance of the seven veils’ although these days looked on as an obtuse reference to striptease, is actually a spiritual allegory – the seven veils that mystics believed protected the Planets.
Byazid Al-Bistami
All this talk and turmoil and noise and movement and desire is outside of the veil;
Within the veil is silence and calm and rest.
