Rudolf Steiner – Nature Spirits

[Evolution] has come about so that man could become the sense being that he is within our physical world, so that he can enrich his inner life through what he takes in through sense impressions, through smell, taste, sight and so on.

All of this becomes embodied in his inner being, so that having obtained it he can use it for the further development of the whole cosmos, what he thus acquires can be acquired in no other way and therefore we have always said that we must not take spiritual science in an ascetic sense, as a flight from the physical world. All that happens here is taken with us out of the physical world and it would be lost to the spiritual world if it were not collected here first.
