Type of Spiritual Experience

Background

One of the most riveting and symbolically descriptive paintings to represent the kundalini experience.

Called ‘L’homme et la Mer’ it not only symbolises the experience and its violence, but the transcendent state reached as a result [the wings].  The water symbolises the spirit – thus the person is immersed in the spirit.

Schwabe was very interested in the art of Hokusai and this picture owes something to Hokusai's painting of the Octopus.
