A description of the experience
Norman Cameron – Collected Poems
From lands where all the flowers have teeth, where half
A serpent furlong coils round every tree
Where the wild rainbow like a giraffe
Curves down its neck to drink upon the sea
Has come this most outrageous foreigner
This fierce outlander who has swooped on me
And like a peacock’s tail keeps hanging there
Above my shoulder, where I turn and see
Tall flames - or are they pinions? – stream above
And from his savage smell I can’t go free
I fear you and I fear you, barbarous Love
You are no citizen of my country
