Maier, Michael - Themis Aurea - Fires and mountains
Type of Spiritual Experience
Michael Maier (1568–1622) was a German physician and counsellor to Rudolf II Habsburg, a learned alchemist, epigramist and amateur composer. He had a strong influence on Sir Isaac Newton. He was also involved in the Rosicrucian movement that appeared around this time, which afforded part of the matter of his Themis aurea
A description of the experience
The fire which serves as pyre for the Phoenix and candle where he resumes a new life… draws its origins from the highest mountain on earth …. This fire is the source of all light which illumines this vast universe; it imparts heat and life to all beings … a Flame that is never consumed.
