Robert Fludd in Utriusque Cosmi maioris salicet et minoris metaphysica provided diagrams that showed the levels in circular format. The external layer is chaos, then – working our way inwards from the rim - we have earth , then water, then air and you can also see fire. The dark area is the aether layer with a central divine power – shown in this case by the sun as creator [this is not a model of Copernicus’s universe!] at its centre.
