A description of the experience

The Life of a Sensitive – Madame Michael Bouissou

I propose now to describe my personal impressions and the method which enabled me to achieve projection, although I do not know if it will prove of any use to other mediums.

I always chose those calm hours after midnight and before four o'clock in the morning. First I fasted for several hours and washed myself scrupulously; then I arranged the room very strictly, removing all books and objects of a slightly frivolous nature. After thoroughly airing the room for at least two hours, I closed the windows. Since I only undertook my projections in summer I did not have to bother about the question of warmth - normally a vital one for me. My sheets were put away in the cupboard; a dimmed light was placed behind me and a light perfume of incense, a valuable aid on account of its purity, filled the room. My door remained closed (this was another reason why I always chose the summer, for my children were on holiday and thus I did not risk a dangerous recall).

Lying on my bed I concentrated firmly, with all my will-power, on the place I wanted to visit. After about twenty minutes a strange phenomenon took place. I felt my body leave a kind of narrow sheath, enclosing it from the feet to the shoulders, my head always remaining perfectly independent and free. I heard a sort of silky rustle accompanying this "skinning" process. A pause of a few minutes preceded a second and then a third shedding of the bodily shells. Before my eyes a black disc spun at great speed, suddenly giving place to a strange narrow corridor which I entered. After this ensued a phantasmagoria which I find difficult to describe. Launched in the air, feeling my hair ruffled by a wind which struck my face, I travelled at tremendous speed a distance which was sometimes very great, without at the outset seeing anything, my rigid body making not the least movement, and my eyes closed to things both near and far.

In this world on the fringe of our own I could feel teeming, living, functioning forces and occasionally harmful rays which, however, could not reach me since I was protected by the absolute objectivity of my experiment and by the very thorough purification I had given to my body.

At a certain moment this chaotic darkness gave place to a soft natural light-the light of day-although it was night for my earthly body; this allowed me to distinguish clearly the region I had reached according to my desire.

In my projection I did not proceed by logical displacement I passed through walls and doors in order to see only what I wanted to see.............................

These experiments and their results may, according to individual viewpoints, seem false, imaginary, impossible, or on the contrary the result of a rare and slightly fantastic mediumistic faculty. They are nothing of the kind. Without trying for one moment to refute the objections of the sceptics - how could I do so - I will merely state, for the others, that the results I obtained during projection were infinitesimal. I never shed more than three bodily husks, whereas the Hindu initiates count seven. I never managed to manifest my presence, whereas Oriental initiates accomplish missions and behave in a state of projection as they do with their normal bodies, and this often at considerable distances and for many days on end.

I know also that in cases of prolonged projection, in addition to the precautions I took regarding my own body, they take that of sealing their eyes, nostrils, mouth and all the natural orifices with fresh wax, thus leaving their carnal dwelling hermetically sealed and clean.

These are the elementary precautions to ensure that nothing will trouble this uninhabited body.
