Background
Although the concept of the template in mystic thought tends to be discussed in terms of creation by the creator, there is also a school of thought that the patterns and templates we create are also ‘stored’ and unconsciously reused and ‘evolved’ when we act as co-creators. Furthermore, evolution is ongoing via humans and their partnerships with animals, plants and birds or other creatures
George Basalla an historian at the University of Delaware studies the evolutionary history of machine tools and technologies. Basalla has suggested that a fair measure of the diversity in the made world might be the number of patents granted. Since 1790, up to around 1992, for example, 4.7 million patents had been issued in the USA alone. In 1867 Karl Marx recorded the fact that over 500 different kinds of hammer were being produced in Birmingham [UK] each one adapted to a specific craft or industry
A description of the experience
Lyall Watson – The Nature of things
… starting perhaps with the lever and the wedge, going on to the inclined plane and the screw, moving eventually to more sophisticated forms like the pulley and the wheel. These are the ancestral forms, the progenitors of the family of machines, early and relatively simple species on which natural selection came to act through human agency.
There are said to be over 300 shapes of turf cutting spade still in use in Ireland.
Hand axes … are machines, crafted by hand but conceived inside the body. Dream-things sent into the world to enrich our lives and made everywhere the same because we share the same dream time. As we shape our tools .. so they shape us
