Background
Many Christian Holy islands are also symbolic recreations of spiritual islands. St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall and Mont St Michel in France are two examples.
Lake Orta, in Italy has an entire set of monastic buildings on its island in the centre of the lake.
We tend to forget that even a place like Paris has its own ‘island’ with its own ‘palace’ in the form of a cathedral. The two islands in the Seine that have the Sainte Chapelle and the cathedral have been symbolically constructed, although much of the symbolism is obscured by subsequent building…………
