Background
From Wikipedia
Carbamazepine (CBZ) (Tegretol, Equetro) is an anticonvulsant and mood-stabilizing drug used primarily in the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder, as well as trigeminal neuralgia. Off-label uses include attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), schizophrenia, phantom limb syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, borderline personality disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Studies on the use of carbamazepine in pregnant women have demonstrated exposure of the fetus to the drug and its metabolites. Intrauterine exposure to carbamazepine has been shown to be teratogenic and is associated with the development of spina bifida, neurodevelopmental problems, craniofacial defects, cardiovascular malformations, hypospadias, and developmental delays.
It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, a list of the most important medication needed in a basic health system [sic].

Nicole on Apr, 24, 2011: The severity of the rash that I got from this medication I have scares from it, and I almost died from it as well. I stop breathing from it and this medicine burned from the inside out and now my skin is peeling from head to toe and I still won't know if it has damaged any of my organ's for a little while . I'm telling everyone this, because I do not wish this on anyone, the itch from the hives/ rash will literally drive you completely insane to the point you wish you were dead. If you get even a slight rash please GO IMMEDIATLLY to the Hospital. The doctors and nurses said they have never seen a drug reaction as severe as mine and still alive
