Type of Spiritual Experience

Background

Many of the features found in spiritual landscapes are often recreated in the physical world, or at least an attempt is made to recreate them.  In effect an actual garden is a bit like a work of art in that it is an attempt to portray what was seen spiritually.

Jardin Majorelle is in Marrakesh.  It is not a large garden but features many of the symbolic garden attributes – it is walled and has small ponds as well as fountains and numerous symbolic plants.  Some of the plants have been chosen for the climate and as such have no specific symbolic associations, but there is a noticeable use of cactii with their known relationships to spiritual experience.

There is much use of very bright clear colours, as well as paths which have a distinct outline and colour [red mostly].  The blue used is intense – the sort of blue found in many religious paintings and described in many spiritual experiences.
