Symbols - What does heaven look like
Coal
Coal is carbon and thus the raw material of a diamond which represents the Higher spirit. There is also a connection with the word Cole.
In order to make the Higher spirit. alchemically one purifies oneself and thus is burnt by fire, the coal is burnt. The analogy of course somewhat breaks down because literally speaking carbon is compressed to make diamond, but it is relatively easy to understand as symbols go.
Coal is also dark – the symbol of the Conscious self.
There is of course a connection between snow - a symbol of purity and of the Subconscious and the snowman and the fact the snowman has coal for eyes. He sees with his intellect, but that is all.
