Lying in fever, while tornado weather
Strained up to body heat and storm sky high
I waged a wordy struggle, in shame and anger,
With flimsy devils hanging from the air
My fever and the storm both broke together
And rain and sweat descended. There was I
From flowery strains and stresses a seed dropped,
Released from long hysterical argument
Of which the tornado thunder’s first explosion
Was the last frantic gesture and good-bye
Then as I lay on soaking earth
There came what stomach filling mirth
And low, strong exultation!
