Symbols - What does heaven look like

Myrtle

Egyptian tree goddess of myrtle

The Myrtle takes on the symbolism of all trees.  It was also yet another tree that was used in some cultures to symbolically represent the Tree of life.

Myrtle is symbolic of love, but by extension love that can generate the mystical marriage - the union of the masculine with the feminine.

In Greek mythology, the myrtle was sacred to the goddesses Aphrodite goddess of human love.  At the Veneralia, women bathed wearing crowns woven of myrtle branches, and myrtle was used in wedding rituals. In Jewish mysticism, the myrtle represents masculine love. For this reason myrtle branches were sometimes given the bridegroom as he entered the nuptial chamber after a wedding.
