Petrus-Paulus RUBENS; Siegen (Westphalie). The image shown is part of the actual picture, which in full shows a mother and son as well. This extract, however, shows just Time raising Truth, 'represented naked according to usual iconographic tradition'. |
My poem
A description of the experience
I wish you and I could live in truth
Declare our love to all
No more deception
Lies are so difficult to maintain
You have to remember lies
It is so much easier to remember the truth
And lies generate more lies
All of them have to be remembered
And you and I are not getting any younger
And our memories are maybe not as good as they were
And a liar has to be a good actor
But I don’t want to act out my life
On some stage of existence
And inside a deep feeling of unease
That you have had to practise deception
With people that trust you, wrongly
I so long to be able to live the truth
No need to remember any more
Just live the truth
Then, old Time can pull me up
Plump and clean and naked
Free of guilt
From above that web of lies
And say ‘from now truth can triumph
