Background
Although I have given quite a detailed decription of Proclus as a philosopher, he was also an initiate in the Mysteries and as such may well have become a mystic as a result
for more details see Sources and the Mysteries. I do not know which activities were used in his case to initiate him.
A description of the experience
In all initiations and Mysteries, the gods exhibit many forms of themselves, and sometimes indeed an unfigured Light of themselves is held forth to the view; sometimes this Light is figured according to human form, and sometimes it proceeds into a different shape. Some of the figures are not gods and excite alarm.
