A description of the experience
One of my first experiences during my first drying out period of 3 weeks in the local Clinic near here was hurling myself down to the ground (it was all very personal) and realising that people had been doing this (the hurling, on the knees, the face wiping, the prostration), in almost semi-automatic reaction to an experience they could not understand and which filled them with amazement, dread and awe.
Well they would, would they not?
If you were an Aborigine or South American peasant and that happened it would be difficult not to assume it was a higher power of "God".
Also easy for unscrupulous "Priests" to manipulate the situation, cases of which must be truly innumerable.
