there seems to be a kind of complementarity between my conscious and my subconscious receiving level, with the result that conscious attention and effort inhibit the emergence of ESP-type impressions.

So does anxiety to please, much as anxiety to win at tennis is inclined to make me play badly.

Apparently I must feel carefree, and the impression must be unexpected, except on a very few unpremeditated occasions when something inside me has said 'Now! Now's the moment; Try now.'

But that may not happen for years at a time.
