The Art of Dying – Drs Peter and Elizabeth Fenwick
Jackie Burton's description of what she experienced as her father died is almost word for word what so many people have described in the near-death experience. She believes her eyes were closed, so that again it seems that these two people, the living and the dying, are sharing the same internal subjective experience:
Dad passed away in the early 1980s. At the moment of his last breath, I was at his side, holding his hand. I believe my eyes were closed. At this point I can only say that everything disappeared and was replaced by a bright white consuming light. Within this was total peace. No pain, no thought, no time. It could have lasted seconds or minutes. I have no awareness of its duration.
