Background
NOTES on this case by Professor Ernesto Bozzano
The rapport between the canine ghosts that appeared to the baby and the dogs of an identical colour that the father had possessed does not seem doubtful. On the other hand, however, it would not be possible to exclude absolutely the hypothesis that the child reads the father's mind.
However, this hypothesis does not seem very likely if we consider that the child had shown himself to be seeing from birth that he had, at the same time, visions of a different nature, that we could not attribute to mind reading and that the ghosts of dogs frequently appeared to him to the point of becoming familiar.
This last circumstance is difficult to reconcile with the hypothesis of the transmission of paternal or maternal thoughts, which should have been directed towards the deceased dogs each time the child saw them. In any case, the origin of this case remains unclear.
A description of the experience
Professor Ernesto Bozzano - The parapsychological manifestations of animals - 130 cases proving animal mediumistic abilities
Case 118. - The Light published this case in 1906, p. 387. Francis T. Harris talks about the death of one of his children, at the age of just seven. He was born to healthy and strong parents. He was healthy himself, without any neuropathological defect, and yet he had shown, from his early years, his disposition to clairvoyance. Mr. Harris recounts:
From the first period of his life, his parents had noticed that he was seeing things that didn't exist for others. This particularity had often been affected by his surroundings. Even before he learned to speak, he often seemed afraid of something invisible. In other cases, on the contrary, he seemed very happy with what he saw and stretched his little arms towards a being that existed only for himself.
He had not yet reached his third year and was having fun one day with his small toys in his bedroom, about two feet from his parents, when he was suddenly seized by a great fear and ran screaming to his mother. As his mother asked him, she learned that he had been frightened by the sight of two dogs, one red and the other black. His father took him in his arms and tried to distract him and calm him down by telling him that the two dogs wanted to play with the baby.
A few days later, the incident was repeated in the same room and under the same circumstances. The child ran to his father, more afraid than ever of the two dogs, and took refuge in his father's arms. The father calmed him down when he pointed out that the small dogs were not hurting him.
When he said that, he called them, first by whistling, then by snapping his fingers and stroking the air near him. This act led the baby to do the same. His astonishment was unbounded when he saw that he could not feel them. All this, however, had the happy result of making his fear disappear. Although he has still seen small dogs quite often, he was no longer afraid of them.
It should be noted that the father of the psychic baby had owned two setter dogs, one red and the other black, who had died three years earlier.
