17-th case. - Mr. E. W. Barnet writes to Professor Hyslop:
In response to your letter, here is what I can tell you about the incident, about which you are asking me. In the spring of 1880, my then 15-year-old brother fell seriously ill with pneumonia, and the doctor who was treating him warned the family that he was in danger of death. The patient soon passed out and remained unconscious for three days.
When it was my turn to watch over him, with a friend, he had not spoken and had not given a sign of life for twenty-four hours. At midnight, he got up on his sofa, opened his eyes and asked where this delicious music came from. He repeated this sentence several times, adding that he had never heard such beautiful music, and asked if we heard it. My friend tells me that this incident was a warning sign of death for my brother.
I was of the same opinion; but it was nothing of the sort. The patient continued to listen to the transcendental music, alluding to it several more times; then he finally fell asleep. When he woke up, he was much better, and he soon began to convalesce. He still lives... ("American Journal of the S.P.R.", 1918, page 628.)
