Background

A description of the experience

Friar Herbert Thurston - The Physical Phenomenon of Mysticism

This nun, at the age of twenty-seven, suddenly put on the outward semblance of childhood, completely forgetting all that she had previously learnt. The condition persisted for some months, and then as suddenly disappeared.

She had also before this exhibited the phenomena of paralysis, loss of sight, inability to take nourishment, clairvoyance, and innumerable convulsive seizures in which she was violently thrown to the ground.

She was subsequently marked with the stigmata and died as Abbess in the odour of sanctity A.D. 1736,
