Background

A description of the experience

Shaikh Muhammad Karim Khan Kirmani – Irshad al-‘awamm [translated by  Henry Corbin and Nancy Pearson]

If it should happen that past times are revealed to you, you will see them under your feet, vertically, not beside you horizontally.  The adventure of our world is the adventure of someone who has to be brought up from the bottom of a well.  Moment by moment he reaches a certain level in the well; from level to level he comes to the upper level.  At each moment the level he has passed is under his feet.  Whoever knows how to look with the organ of inner sight will thus see past times beneath his feet more and more opaque, dense and dark; whereas day after day, he continues to ascend time, drawing nearer to the primordial Will and becoming more luminous, more subtle.
