Mircea Eliade – Shamanism Archaic techniques of ecstasy
Besides Art Toyon Aga there are seven other great gods above and a multitude of lesser gods. But their celestial habitat does not necessarily imply a uranian structure. Side by side with the ‘White Lord Creator’, [Urun, Ai Toyon] who lives in the fourth heaven, we find for example, ‘The Gentle Mother Creatress’, ‘the Gentle Lady of Birth’ and the ‘Lady of the Earth’ (An Alai Chotoun). The god of the chase, Bai Baianai, inhabits both the eastern part of the sky and the fields and forests. But black buffaloes are sacrificed to him – an indication of his telluric origin.
The bis below comprises eight great gods, headed by ‘The all Powerful Lord of the Infinite’ Ulu-tuyer, Ulu-Toyon and an unlimited number of ‘evil spirits’.
