Symbols - What does heaven look like
Chaffinch
The chaffinch takes its symbolism from that for all birds. But its colouring is special as it is a bird of Fire [Red], Water [Blue] and Aether [White]. There is also a hint of black Darkness and Light. Symbolically it is also linked to grain – “The bird is so named for its tendency to peck the grain left out in farmyards”.
The powerful song is very well known, and its fink or vink sounding call gives the finch family its English name. Males typically sing two or three different song types. So a link with songlines. The chaffinch was often kept as a pet bird in Europe, there were even singing contests in Belgium between the male birds.
