Introduction and description
Osteopenia is a condition in which bone mineral density is lower than normal. It is considered by many doctors to be a precursor to osteoporosis. However, not every person diagnosed with osteopenia will develop osteoporosis. Osteopenia is a common effect of coeliac disease, even among patients who are otherwise asymptotic.
One major cause is estrogen imbalance, which itself has numerous causes, please follow the link. A more general picture of the causes of bone diseases in general and thus of Osteopenia, is provided in Bone and skeletal disease, please follow the link.
