Introduction and description
Cold Sores are small skin blisters anywhere around the mouth. Although they are called cold sores they are not caused by cold, or the virus that causes the common cold, but by the Herpes simplex virus.
The herpes simplex virus is a latent virus - capable of living hidden in the body without detection by the immune system. At times of low immunity - such as when we get cold or have the common cold, the herpes virus can reappear and work its way round the body.
