William S. King, aged seventy, has been described as the doyen of British clairvoyants. As well as being a psychometrist, he is essentially an "aura clairvoyant". His gift was first recognised when he apparently predicted his twin brother's death at the age of two.

He noticed that he was different from others at about the age of thirteen and claimed that since then his gift has grown stronger.  His first awareness of "aura clairvoyance" was as follows:

"sitting in church I used to notice something which was far from pleasant. Somebody in the congregation in front of me would seem to have a faint and transparent second head and shoulders outside his own. It was quite different from the double image you see when you deliberately put your eyes out of focus. So far from fading out when the organ began, this manifestation only appeared when the singing started and so, I suppose, must have had some connection with sound vibrations. I saw this only occasionally and always with the elderly or very young and, as the years went by, came to notice that whenever I saw it, it meant that the person was going to die within the next few weeks.

I never told anybody about the 'rainbow', but this 'second body' began to worry me.

I was examined by our family physician and told 'there's nothing physically wrong with you'. I nearly answered, 'But there is something wrong with old Mrs. Mulligan because she's going to die very soon!  I worried about it, especially when old Mrs. M. did die a month later."

When Mr. King was fourteen, his father was talking about an old friend he was going to see. He was not talking to the young Mr. King, who butted in, saying, "Father don't go, he's dead."

He was rebuked, but his father found his friend dead after a seventy-mile journey.
