Background
Luce had a much loved granny who had had an affair during the first world war with the lodger, whilst her husband was away fighting. The lodger was there to help make ends meet at a time of real problems money wise. He was a foreigner. Luce’s father was the seventh of eight children and the eighth child was the result of this liaison. His brothers and sisters - like him – were very intelligent and had attended senior school and went on to get good jobs.
Needless to say, the event proved traumatic to the family. This person’s father saw the rift it created between his father and mother, and also suffered as a result because the money that might have been spent sending him to senior school [he won a scholarship but was unable to take it up] was spent on the illegitimate baby. He became racist as a result hating all foreigners. Furthermore he became hugely protective of his daughter and her ‘morals’.
He also projected every frustrated ambition he had and that had been denied on this person and her brother. In subtle ways and without any attempt to be unkind, he created a drive to succeed and live out his dreams that followed both brother and sister through until his death.
So intense was the subconscious need to please her father, that she did not have children and worked until she made herself ill. At heart she was quiet and home loving and loved children, but she ended up taking up a very demanding career.
She was also deeply suspicious of men and their ability to hurt, and married someone kind and loving, but not entirely who she was attracted to, in order that she didn’t get hurt. Subconsciously she chose a person who she was not physically or sexually attracted to but who was likely not to betray her.
Fire is a symbol of purification
A description of the experience
The dream was in an old Victorian house owned I was told by some little old ladies. The house was full of memorabilia – things in cabinets and on shelves and on the walls, cluttered but sort of homely. Not frightening, the house had a nice feel and was bathed in a sort of warm light as if the house itself was full of memories. Anyway, I was told that I was supposed to 'steal from them' – steal their memorabilia - as an exercise for the fire brigade !!?? This has really got me stumped.
