Background

A description of the experience

From Myths, Mysteries and Folklore

This is my family home in a little hamlet on Exmoor, it’s around 600 years old and we’ve lived in there for over 20 years and during that time we’ve had countless experiences!
As a child I would always hear noises of people running up and down the stairs, rattling the door knobs, talking and even drumming noises. It would always feel as though someone was watching you, and it still does - although these days the energy feels more friendly than it used to.
When I was younger the energy would feel menacing, lots of events of bottles being thrown across my room, baubles flying off the Christmas tree and smashing against the wall, the bathroom door locking itself and the sound of someone running away laughing, one night feeling the presence of someone watching over me SO intensely I had to hide under my covers and will them not to hurt me.
One corner of the living room in particular feels the most energy heavy. We very foolishly did a ouija board once and a seance which resulted in the front door opening and slamming shut and there being scratch marks left on the window in that corner of the room - we never again did another!
The spirits (as we all wholeheartedly believe them to be) can also be helpful too! One day my mum was asleep and woke up by someone shoving her awake and something willing her to go downstairs. She went down to find that the curtain in the previously mentioned corner window had caught fire! If someone hadn’t woken her, the house would have caught fire so quickly and I dread to think what could have happened!
I believe that there are several different energies, people or spirits that live in our home, I think how old it is it would be impossible for them not to! These days the energy feels softer and more friendly, which has been ever since my stepbrother who hated my mum and I and isn’t a pleasant person at all, moved out. I believe that when he was here his negative thoughts and energy stirred up anything negative that had been here before and drew in bad spirits.
It used to be the most frightening thing to come downstairs at night for the bathroom, that corner used to frighten the life out of all of us, but these days it’s less so. I slept down here the other night and did dream about a spirit entering our house through that window which has really stuck with me, but felt better than I used to in general.
I also believe that my Nan is here too with us, she passed away about 6 years ago and I think her presence has helped some of the more negative energy to move on.
So, after this very long and rambled post, that’s my family home! I wouldn’t change it for the world and feel as though we can all coexist together quite happily! I live in Bristol now but like to think that the spirits look after my parents when I’m away too.
