B J Laubscher – Where Mystery dwells
Mrs. M. A. Berry of Joubert Park, Johannesburg described a phantom of a woman in grey, but she could not see the head, nor the arms and legs. It was a grey apparition floating along as if draped in a long frock and with hooded head, so that no face was discernible. In fact, it was a featureless being, rather more a grey cloudy column resembling a person draped from head to foot in some soft material like tulle.
Mrs. Berry first saw this apparition in 1950 and since then has noticed that the advent of the apparition was always associated with bad news or death concerning the family.
"I just get creepy and goosey when it appears. Once I went to look at a house to rent and as I entered it I felt this sinister presence. I took my uncle there for his opinion, and we were no sooner in the house when he said .’Let us get out,' which we did as hastily as we could and locked the door behind us. Even to this day I feel and see the apparition before I hear of bad news, and when it appears I am distressed for I know something unpleasant is about to happen."
