A description of the experience
B J Laubscher – Where Mystery dwells
Mr. J. A. Nardin of Port Elizabeth wrote me a charming letter which showed that even as a child he had his astral sight and hearing well developed. It almost compared with his physical sight and hearing. But his parents dismissed these impressions of his as nightmares or just vivid dreams.
Then years later while working in Johannesburg, in fact it was in 1936, he developed a toothache on his way to work. As he was waiting for his tram a voice distinctly and clearly said to him :
‘Don't go to work today. You have a toothache.’ But he decided toothache or not he should attend to his job.
The voice however became more insistent and he almost felt like turning back. At last he reached the employees' entrance of the Carlton Hotel, and then the voice said very loudly :
"Don't go to work today."
He entered the building and never heard that voice again. The same evening he had his right hand mangled in a mincing machine and it was so serious that it had to be amputated the following day.
He thought that in mental association with him was a discarnate being conscious of the accident to come who tried to prevent it by warning him.
