Type of Spiritual Experience

Background

Comenius was no fan of the need for memorising.

Memory is a major block to spiritual experience.  The vast store of ‘facts’, which are not facts but beliefs is a real hindrance to finding truth, whether this be by spiritual experience or observation using the 5 senses or simply by comparison of many different sources.

In contrast, he, like many of the men he admired such as Descartes, wished to actively encourage the development of a person or child’s ability to reason

A description of the experience

The pupil should be forced to memorise as little as possible, that is to say only the most important things.  If the rest they need only grasp the general meaning

The source of the experience
