Background

A description of the experience

Fluticasone/salmeterol -  is marketed under various trade names including Advair, Seretide, Viani, Adoair, ForAir and Foxair.  The combination preparation fluticasone/salmeterol is a formulation containing fluticasone propionate and salmeterol xinafoate used in the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Fluticasone  – marketed as Flixotide ,  Flonase ,  and Flixonase,  - a corticosteroid, is the anti-inflammatory component of the combination, while salmeterol treats constriction of the airways – a bronchodilator which was described in another section. Together, they relieve the symptoms of coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.  Salmeterol is a long acting beta-adrenoceptor agonist (LABA)

Fluticasone propionate belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids, specifically glucocorticoids.   It is used to treat asthma, allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps, and various skin disorders.

Nasal spray preparation of fluticasone propionate is used in the prophylaxis and treatment of allergic rhinitis. The usual dose is 100 micrograms into each nostril once daily, increased if necessary to 100 micrograms into each nostril twice daily. Children aged 4-11 years may be given half these doses
