Chakras and the endocrine system
By the process described in the section on Aggregates, every organ in our body has a set of functions specific to its operation, plus a number of functions that are not operational functions but are ‘value added functions that exists because we have created a class called ‘liver’ or ‘gall bladder’ or ‘heart’.
Within the Indian system of software based and hence functional based systems, the systems that regulate each organ are called ‘chakras’. There is a direct correspondence between the various glands of the body - ‘hardware’ and the software system that runs on them – the chakras.
So for example, Mooladhara corresponds to the perineal glands and controls sexual systems; swaddhisana controls the kidney, urinary and excretory systems; manipura corresponds to the adrenal gland , but affects the digestive, stomach and liver systems; anahata corresponds to the thymus but also affects the heart and lung systems; visshudi corresponds to the thyroid; ajna corresponds to the pituitary glands but we also have sahasrana corresponding [roughly] to the hypothalamus and pineal glands
Sahasrara is regarded as the gateway to the spiritual world, as such it implies the composer may be found around the thalamus or the hypothalamus.
This may not seem very relevant, but if we think of the body as a biological computer, with functions that ‘run’ on these biological components, it is important to know your functions and where they reside.
Which type of input goes to which chakra? Again, the sources I studied did not agree so I found it very difficult to come up with one consistent picture. The following is a summary from one of Barbara Brennan’s book.
