Bread

Bread is the staff of life they say
And hard rolls make it stay and stay
That crusty little froggy stick
All plastered with some butter thick
Will see you through the long hard day
Why do it any other way?

The long Italian Ciabatta
With olive oil is maybe better
Just hold it with a finger thumb
You do not get so many crumbs
And Focaccia too is simply scrumptious
When shared with someone who is bumptious
And Italian like the bread
And with nice oil, as I have said

A bagel’s got a handy hole
For playing games with jumping poles
And late at night the exotic naan
Served by an Indian with a tan
Is just the ticket like or not
Enjoyed with something very hot

I simply find the US sour dough
Too soft too flabby so I say no
And the traditional farmhouse loaf
Too soft, too timid, just an oaf
And that disease named bread the Scofa
Does not sound nice, I’ve not tried so far
And bread with rye, no not with romance
Cos alcohol can spoil performance
And the white bloomer that old stand-by
Big knickers you just can’t get hands by?
No best to stick with what you know
The wholesome wholemeal in one go

So give me something hard and long
With two nice rolls to fit along
I’ll knead them, feed them, quickly bake
To do it is a piece of cake
