Type of Spiritual Experience

Background

There is something rather sad about the following observation. Dr Hayden is using the bridge of the form handled by the person making the application to access their perceptions.  Ultimately she is acting like a medium, not a healer or a diagnostician or anyone who helps the person concerned.  What makes this rather unpleasant is that the people she has rejected are not out to dupe the insurance company, neither presumably knew of what might happen.  So she ended up causing the insurance company to reject two honest and deserving cases, people whose relatives might have found the insurance a help.  The insurance company increased its profits and the relatives lost their financial support.

Dr Shafica Karagulla, born in the Lebanon but whose research took her to the USA and the UK,  was a neuro-psychiatrist who spent eight years researching ordinary people who appeared to have extraordinary abilities.  She started off being a skeptic as most scientists are [including me] but over time the evidence seemed overwhelming and she set up a research project to find out more.  What brought her into the area was a book about Edgar Cayce, what kept her going was an open mind and an insatiable curiosity.  Where she is remarkable is that she had no experiences of her own to confirm her eventual conclusions,  but like all the very best scientists forgot her own life and concentrated on the observations and evidence.  Her research subjects were carefully chosen.  She rejected all those who claimed they had these abilities but instead by a laborious process of enquiry and referral managed to find those who carried on normal professions and who never talked about their abilities but just used them.

A description of the experience

Breakthrough to Creativity – Dr Shafica Karagulla

Dr. Hayden was employed by the Globe Insurance Company of New York for some years at a salary of $3,000 a year as a ‘psychometrist’. The insurance company had Dr. Hayden psycrometrize the signature of any client wishing to be insured to discover whether or not he was a good insurance risk.

…On one occasion a man who wished to be insured for $10,000 was pronounced "as sound as a bullet" by the company's physician. When Dr. Hayden held his signature in her hand she said the man would be dead within eight weeks. The company delayed issuing him an insurance policy on her advice.

Seven weeks later the client fell dead from a heart attack.

On another occasion she held in her hand the signature of an applicant for insurance and said that he would commit suicide within the year. This seemed rather far-fetched to the executive who was writing the policy and he disregarded it.  The client developed depressive tendencies and committed suicide in less than a year
