Symbols - What does heaven look like
Circumcision
When this section was first written, we believed the then current belief that in a land without a great deal of running water and with the ever present problem of viruses and sexually transmitted diseases, the physical act of circumcision had some practical benefits.
But as research has progressed we have found that there is a very alarming correlation between circumcision and benign prostatic hyperplasia - and in circumcision of both men and women. As such not only does circumcision have no benefits it appears to promote disease rather than prevent it.
But circumcision is mentioned in Genesis and Genesis is an entirely symbolic book in the Bible - perhaps more so than any other part of the Bible. Nothing in Genesis can be taken literally - nothing. And here we have the appropriate passage
Genesis 17:10-14 King James Version (KJV)
10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.
12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.
13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant
So what does circumcision mean symbolically? because this is symbolic.
Eight days does not mean eight days, in the same way that the 7 days in which the universe was supposed to have been created does not mean seven days. It may be helpful here to glance at the symbolism of the clock. Foreskin does not mean foreskin [I think that some license was taken with the original text here too during translation].
A penis is a symbol of the creative force both literally and figuratively. Look at any average penis and it is cone shaped - and like a little man with a head on the top.
On ejaculation, the penis is symbolically like a kundalini experience - the crown chakra opened, the spiritual energy surging upwards. The 'foreskin' in this sense is thus symbolically like a hood which is preventing this from happening.
The symbolic message is thus that everyone needs to be ritually prepared to undergo a kundalini experience. At the time Genesis was written and bearing in mind the texts from which it was derived the Mystery religions were at their height. They were also sexually based thus the reference would have been symbolic and to an extent literal. The key phrase is
"the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people"
or if you are not initiated into the Mysteries and prepared [over whatever time it used to take to be initiated into the Mystery religions], and furthermore if you do not obtain a kundalini experience, you are in effect cut off from the spiritual world.
The tragedy is of course that in making the symbolic literal for thousands of years, probably millions of little boys have suffered needlessly and some have died from the infections caused by this act. This is what happens when you get a theologian interpreting texts he is in no position to comment on because he has not a spiritual bone in his body.
Foreskin = hood = blindfold = ignorance of all things spiritual
