A description of the experience

The story of Jeanne R. as recorded by Mr. Bourru and Mr. Burot in Changements de la personnalité

I would point out that the phenomenon of reviving a period of the past life occurred in Albertine, Mr. Pitres' subject, spontaneously, as a consequence of a crisis of hysteria, while for Jeanne R..., the memory regression is because of a suggestion.

As quoted in Gabriel Delanne - Materials for use in the study of Reincarnation

Jeanne R..., 24 years old, is a very nervous and deeply anaemic young girl. She is prone to crying and sobbing attacks; no convulsive attacks, but frequent fainting; she is easily hypnotized, she sleeps a lot and when she wakes up she has lost the memory.

She was told to wake up when she was 6 years old. She is with her parents: we are at the time of the Vigil, we peel chestnuts. She wants to sleep and asks to go to bed! She calls her brother André to help her finish her job, but André enjoys making small houses with chestnuts instead of working. He is very lazy, he has fun peeling ten, and I have to peel the rest.

In this state, she speaks Limousin dialect, can't read, barely knows A. B. C. She can't speak a word of French. Her little sister Louise doesn't want to sleep. She says, you always have to swaddle my sister, who is 9 months old. She has a childish attitude.

After having put a hand on her forehead, she was told that, in two minutes, she would find herself at the age of 10. Her face is quite different; her attitude is no longer the same. She is located in Les Frais, at the castle of the Moustiers family, near which she lived. She sees paintings and admires them. She asks where her sisters who accompanied her are, she goes to see if they come on the road. She talks like a child learning to speak; she has been going to school with the sisters for two years, she says, but she has stayed away for a long time without going; her mother being often sick, she was forced to babysit her sisters and siblings. She started writing six months ago, she remembers a dictation given to her on Wednesday, and she writes a full page very fluently and by heart; it's the dictation she did at the age of 10. She says she is not very advanced: "Marie Coutureau will have fewer mistakes than I do, I am always after Marie Puybaudet and Marie Coutureau, but Louise Roland is after me. I think that Jeanne Beaulieu is the one who makes the most mistakes".

In the same way, she was told to find herself at the age of 15. She serves in Mortemart, at Miss Brunerie's house: "Tomorrow, we go to a celebration, a wedding, the wedding of Baptiste Colombeau, the marshal. Leon will be my partner. Oh! I'm not going to the ball, Miss Brunerie doesn't want to; I'm fine for 15 minutes, but she doesn't know it." Her conversation is more well-attended than before. She writes the Petit Savoyard. The difference between the two writings is very great. When she wakes up, she is very surprised to have written Le Petit Savoyard, which she no longer knows. When we show her the dictation she made when she was 10 years old, she says she didn't write it.
