Shihabudin Yahya Suhrawardi – Book of Conversations [translated by Henry Corbin and Nancy Pearson
If that which predominates in the essential substance of the soul is the res victorialis then the Light of dawn rises on the soul in such a way that that part of the victorial realities emanating from the constellations and from the Angels who are their theurgies, predominate in it. This is the suprasensory reality, which the ancient Persians called Xvaranah. This is something which, having risen from astral incandescence, remains as a dominating force in the human world; he who is invested with it becomes a hero, a conqueror, a victor. If the Light of dawn arising from the spiritual stars – pure spiritual entities of light – corresponds to the capacity of the soul in a ‘dimension’ of desire and love, then what remains of the Xvarnah which penetrates it will be manifested by causing its possessor to take joy in subtle and refined things, by awakening in souls inclination and love toward him, by bringing men to sing his praises, for the splendour communicated to his being derives from the Angels and their beneficient theurgies, worthy of glorification and of love
