A description of the experience

Methylphenidate also known by the trade names MPH; Ritalin , Concerta, Metadate Cd  and Metadate Er   or Methylin  is a drug approved for treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, ‘postural orthostatic tachcardia syndrome’ and narcolepsy.   Methylphenidate is a reuptake inhibitor of dopamine and norepinephrine. MPH possesses structural similarities to amphetamine, and, though it is less potent, its pharmacological effects are even more closely related to those of cocaine. http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/amphetamines/amphetamines.shtml

Ethylphenidate (EP) is formed when ethanol and methylphenidate are coingested, via the liver.   Ethylphenidate formation appears to be more common when large quantities of methylphenidate and alcohol are consumed at the same time.  Ethylphenidate is more selective to the dopamine transporter (DAT) than methylphenidate, having approximately the same efficacy as the parent compound, but has significantly less activity on the norepinephrine transporter (NET). It has a near-identical dopaminergic pharmacodynamic profile as methylphenidate
