Background

A description of the experience

Mycophenolic acid is an immunosuppressant drug used to prevent rejection in organ transplantation. It inhibits an enzyme needed for the growth of T cells and B cells. It was initially marketed as the prodrug mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) to improve oral bioavailability. More recently, the salt mycophenolate sodium has also been introduced. Mycophenolate mofetil is commonly marketed under the trade name CellCept , and mycophenolate sodium as Myfortic .

Compared with azathioprine it has significantly higher incidence of diarrhoea, otherwise it suffers from all the other side effects of immunosuppressants -  nausea, vomiting, infections, leukopenia, and/or anemia, fatigue, headache, and/or cough. Infrequent adverse effects include esophagitis, gastritis, gastrointestinal tract hemorrhage, and/or invasive cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection.  Patients on mycophenolate mofetil and mycophenolic acid are at increased risk of opportunistic infections, such as activation of latent viral infections, including shingles, other herpes infections, cytomegalovirus, and BK virus [sic].

On Jan, 22, 2017 2,592 people reported to have side effects when taking Mycophenolic Acid.  Among them, 6 people (0.23%) have Hallucination

On Jan, 04, 2017 5,291 people reported to have side effects when taking Myfortic.  Among them, 19 people (0.36%) have Hallucination
