what you thought of as the entirely undeserved power of the wicked is no power at all. I wanted you to see that those whose freedom from punishment you were complaining of, do not at all escape paying for their wickedness. That freedom of theirs, for whose speedy end you were praying doesn't last long and will be the more miserable the longer it continues. It will be the most miserable of all if it is endless. And lastly, the wicked are more wretched when unjustly absolved from punishment than when they receive a just retribution. The logical conclusion of this is that they are burdened with heavier punishment precisely when they are believed to have escaped it
