Croiset the Clairvoyant - Jack Harrison Pollack

The following comes from an autobiographical incident which Croiset told Professor Tenhaeft in 1947:

"When I was ten years old, I lived in the town of Middelburg [capital of the island province of Zeeland where the Roosevelt family came from]. One day I badly needed some money as I wanted to go to the movies to see Pola Negri. I met a girl classmate whose mother had sent her to do some shopping and she was counting her money. It was getting dark. Suddenly the girl fell. Her purse flew out of her hand and her money scattered over the street. A small silver coin rolled my way. I put my foot on it, while pretending to help her look for it. When she was some distance away from me, I picked up the coin without her noticing it and put it in my pocket. But the next day, when I went to the movies, I stopped at the entrance. I could not go in. I went home and kept the coin in my pocket for two days. It almost burned a hole there. The next day at school I gave it back to her.

I did so pretending I had just found it where she had lost it.

"Years later I was asked to help a sick man who was being treated with little success by a doctor. He had lost his appetite,-become-thin, could not sleep, and had other symptoms which worried his family. When I entered his bedroom, I suddenly-saw above his head the image of this same girl from Middelburg. After his family had left the room, I asked him in a stern voice: 'Whose money did you steal?'

The man grew very frightened. He twisted in his bed and his face broke out in a cold sweat. He thought I was a policeman.

When I assured him that I wasn't and was only trying to help him, he -admitted having stolen the money. He had given it to a former girlfriend who was blackmailing him, she had threatened to tell his wife of their affair. He told me other things. But what he didn't tell me, I told him. I began to see all sorts of things from his past. I ordered him to get up and dress and to come with me to call on the man from whom he had stolen the money and admit it and then to visit the girl who was blackmailing him. She promised to stop:  I  also went to the doctor who was treating the man, Dr. Van D. in Enschede, and told him that I had good reason to believe that his illness came from a psychical-cause. The doctor referred his patient to a psychiatrist who later completely cured him."
