A description of the experience
The World as Will and Idea – Arthur Schopenauer
Permanent matter must constantly change its form; for, as causality ordains, mechanical, physical, chemical and organic phenomena, jostling in their eagerness to emerge, wrest the matter from each other, for each desires to reveal its own Idea. This strife may be seen to pervade the whole of nature; indeed nature, in its turn, exists through it.
'For, as Empedocles says, if there were no strife in things, everything would be one and the same'
Aristotle Metaphysics B5
