Milton Erickson’s eye flutter technique
The following example is taken from the book Hypnotic Realities and was used by Milton Erickson in his hypnotherapy sessions. More detail on Erickson himself and the approach he used is found in a separate section. This example however, is specifically a use of biofeedback. Erickson says the word 'odd' when the eye blink is slow and 'even' when it is fast. Eye flutter is not only one way in which the hypnotists can tell whether a trance is being induced, but a way of inducing trance, thus by feeding back the rate of flutter, the person unconsciously becomes more aware of the rate of flutter.
