Uxmal - Mayan - West building the feathered serpent
Identifier
011701
Type of Spiritual Experience
Background
Winding its way through the design of the West building's frieze is the feathered serpent god Quetzalcoatl. In the photo you can see the face peering from the mouth of the snake.
Many shamans/kings/lords/gods could shape shift and change themselves for the purposes of travel into something, and the Popol Vuh includes instances of this. There are also many other examples on this site. In effect, there is every indication that Quetzalcoatl was a very gifted shaman/lord. He was introduced into Yucatan by the Toltecs from Central Mexico and just as today the exploits of football players are related far and wide, it appears that in far off days, the exploits of Quetzalcoatl also became legendary - a sort of Ronaldo of the spirit world.
